November 2024
Dear praying family!
Here is the link to see this report in colorful pictures… Please give us your feedback.
We had a blessed momentum coming from October that moved us at ease and great expectation for all we committed to the Lord to do in November.
Firstly, my love for mangos prepared me to travel 8 hours northeast to Santa Rosa de Curvan where it seems to be the mango capital of Peru. Believers there welcomed us with open arms and halted their harvesting activities so as to take advantage of the lessons they asked me to share with them. I was the only teacher this time. We had a wonderful interaction contemplating the Word and what the Lord says to singles, widows, married, unmarried and virgins.
Secondly, two special visitors came to see us all the way from Maryland! Over the last 2 decades our ministry was blessed with the presence of many Korean American believers that came to give us a hand in various projects. That connection was in part due to our initial friendship in the Lord with James Park. We felt honored that he and his sister Mi would come to visit with us. They joined our family in what was already an important week for us as we were celebrating our son Timothy’s 5th year since he was welcomed into our family.
Lastly, a trip to the jungle to see firsthand the progress made on the building project in San Luis was not only satisfying but also invigorating. The building is coming along beautifully. There is a nice blend of young and old believers consistently volunteering week after week. Their perseverance is commendable on all fronts. There is already a wholesome regiment of activities proper for a church assembly though still without a permanent facility. On the Sunday I was with them I had a wonderful time celebrating the Lord’s Supper. I noticed the Lord keeps consistently adding new believers from the community. This December there will be baptism for new believers … things are moving wonderfully, and we see the Lord’s hand in all of it. So, we are eager to continue pressing on with the work that the Lord is faithfully providing for.
But then our momentum hit a snag, a big one. It had to do with Hogar de Esperanza! Yes, another one for the long list. When we learned of its magnitude, we could only think of James the apostle when he wrote: My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials. This reminder immediately called for a change in our approach though I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I was deeply frustrated and annoyed—to say the least. This time the municipality decided to freeze Hogar de Esperanza’s bank account claiming an outstanding land tax through the years. You can read a more detailed explanation in our pictorial report. For now, we ask you to pray for us as we tackle this and find a suitable resolution. Like one faithful brother said to us after learning of our recent plight: “So the city apparently feels no obligation to enable the welfare of the orphans? That’s brutal!”
Coming Up…
December 7, home bible study last activity before end of the year recess.
December 7, challenge to students and parents of Elliot School graduating class.
December 7, Hogar de Esperanza board strategic meeting with a former director to tackle recent development with the municipality.
December 8, instructing the assembly on “The Offering for the Saints.” (rescheduled from last month).
December 13, our daughter Abi arrives to spend two weeks with us.
December 12-15, teaching-preaching in Chiclayo.
December 18, elders and leaders in our home for an end of the year meal and remembrance.
December 21, special Christmas program for the assembly (great evangelistic opportunity).
With love and gratitude in Jesus’s name!
