Dear praying family!

Our time stateside has been so profitable and encouraging. It is refreshing not only to see our beloved family, but also to meet up with many other saints as time and distance allows us to do so.
We left Peru immediately after participating in the 7th Elders & Workers Conference in Cajamarca, a historical mountain town in northern Peru. There were nearly one hundred participants that gathered in the name of the Lord to reflect upon the theme: “Persevering in the Truth.” The three-day event was strategically prepared to include not only the plenary sessions but also reports from specific regions. One of the brothers from the distant southern jungle encouraged us to pray for their need of more frequent visits to his area to equip new leaders to lead the work in his area. We certainly needed to hear the status of the brethren in their respective location. A forced hiatus of 4 long years because of covid, prevented us from hearing these most informative reports. Also, providentially, the organizers included an enlightening workshop on the benefits of an assembly registering as a religious institution in the Peruvian legal system. This resonated with many of the participants that came mainly from small towns and villages. A proper follow up is on the way and we pray our workshop leader, a lawyer in one of the assemblies in the capital, manages to assist the saints in their need.
Two things that many have asked while stateside this August and we referred to in our last update: how is the land dispute with our (orphanage) neighbor and how are the 4 siblings that arrived recently at Hogar de Esperanza. The case with our neighbor is moving along though it puzzles us that he has not said a word in his defense even after being summoned to do so. The DA is now going meticulously through all the evidence we presented in pictures and videos. What our neighbor will do in his defense and how, remains a mystery to us. Please pray for all this. And regarding the four siblings, about two weeks into their schooling and precisely after school, the oldest boy decided to run away. We reported it to the authorities and searched him out for many hours. Eventually we learned news that he made it to the home of a distant relative. We thank the Lord he is safe and sound. The authorities are deciding what to do next. As for the three younger siblings, they have remained in good spirits and have pressed on with their daily routines. Please pray for them as well.
Our time over this past month in the US included a wedding, church visits, reuniting with some close friends, and time with family. We attended a wedding in Chicago, which served also as a missionary reunion of sorts since those tying-the-knot were children of families who have served in Peru for many years. It was so wonderful to reconnect with each of them and many others! We have also had opportunities to fellowship with the dear saints of Brooklyn Bible Chapel, Friendship Community Baptist Church, Grace Life Bible Church, Columbia Presbyterian, and Monterey Chapel. Our time spent with our oldest daughter Abi and Sarah’s parents has been so precious! Please pray for Abi as she has now begun her junior year at Lancaster Bible College. We have so enjoyed everyone we have been able to spend time with and hope next time we will have the chance to visit with many more of you! Please pray for us as we say goodbyes, fly back to Peru, and settle back into our routine of life and ministry!
