October 2024
Dear praying family!
You can view a nice assortment of pictures and short video clips about this report here!
As much as I was hoping to be a stay-at-home dad most of October when Sarah and our daughter Hannah left stateside to visit potential college options for our daughter, I found much grace and peace to remain heavily involved in most ministry activities outside the home.
To start, looking after the children that stayed behind allowed me to appreciate even more the work my dear wife does day and night to homeschool the children and take care of house chores and more. I intended to do the same but felt severely handicapped in many areas. Thank the Lord for the mutual “dependence” on each other’s gifts to carry on a wholesome household. I was indeed highly motivated to share about this with the assembly as I was asked to speak on male leadership. God is good!
Our son Timothy and I got to spend more hours together than we usually do. Overall, we got along well as his sisters are pretty much independent in their schoolwork. I have a feeling he has a more structured mind as every morning he’d ask how our day would unfold. I sensed he wanted me to include on the list his daily dose of going to the park. One day we spent a good part of the day looking for cars. We sensed we were getting close to deciding on what vehicle to purchase to replace the stolen one from Hogar de Esperanza. Yes, we were no longer looking for a used vehicle. The Lord had better things in mind as He stopped us from purchasing a used truck at the end of September. In the process, He upgraded our options through the generous giving of His people so that we went ahead and purchased a brand-new truck. You can see this beauty in our pictorial report. Great is His faithfulness!
I also appreciated our son’s patience as he patiently waited for me in several board meetings for the school and orphanage. Thank the Lord for Legos that kept his creative mind busy. During one of those meetings, we received news that our land dispute case, which was tossed by a corrupt DA and we appealed, was upheld! We almost cried when we received this news. We were sort of hopeless that something like this could happen and were brainstorming as a board what to do! At this point it looks like our case will go to court. As our lawyer told us: “with this, things just started.” Give thanks to the Lord with us and keep praying!
Chauffeuring our children to and from school responsibilities and overseeing their daily work distracted me somewhat from my bible teaching and sermon preparation, but nothing like the day I saw a bulletproof-vested and armed guard standing outside our house. His presence day and night looking after the house across from our home made me wonder if our street had finally succumbed to the extortion plague sweeping across the nation that our federal government has been unable to fix. After our capital of Lima, our city has the highest number of cases in the nation. A recent event was in everyone’s mind involving a school teacher that was gunned down in front of his students during school hours. Two national transportation strikes have already taken place, and more are planned for November to demand that authorities implement more decisive measures. We are seeing it on the bright side … we have security 24 hours a day on our street for free :)
We have lots more prayer and praise items in our pictorial report (like what was the outcome from Sarah and Hannah’s visit to 3 Christian colleges in the US, Hogar de Esperanza and Centro Biblico Trujillo’s special anniversary events), please take time to lift us up and those involved to the throne of grace.
Coming up…
November is committed to raise awareness about the persecuted church in the local assembly. We have special events the whole month finishing with a special offering to go to the Lord’s people in Pakistan, Israel, and Northern Peru.
November 9, may the Lord give us grace and wisdom as we tackle our seasonal series to the youth on “The Bible, Romance, and Courtship.”
November 10, continue instructing the assembly with a new series entitled: “How Do We Do Church?” This time we’ll address the topic of “Church Discipline.”
November 15-17, quick trip to Tarapoto in the jungle to prepare for the next leg of the church plant facility in progress in San Luis.
November 18-22, James Park, a dear brother in the faith from my college years in Washington DC, will be coming to visit with our family and see some of the ministries in the area.
November 24, instructing the assembly on “The Offering for the Saints.”
November 29-December 1, teaching/preaching in Santa Rosa de Curvan.
With gratitude and loving prayers in Jesus’ name!
