About Us

I was born in Bolivia in 1958, to missionary parents Rolf & Irene Fostervold. Our family then moved to Paraguay in 1959 to reach out to un-contacted tribes who were living in jungle areas. In 1971 we moved to a remote jungle area on the eastern side of Paraguay in order to make contact with a nomadic hunting and gathering tribe, called the Ache, as their lives were at risk with malnutrition, death and slavery a constant companion. It took five years to make a friendly contact with them, and in October of 1976, finally 28 Aché came out of the forest out of harm's way at Puerto Barra, after 7 high risk contacts with them in the forest. Since this time, we've been able to see this tribe come to Christ. In 1986, I met a lovely Paraguayan lady who was a school teacher and unbeknownst to me, was to be my future wife! We were married in 1989, and Rosalba has been my gift from God, strong, tender & the mother of my three children Brian, Reidar & Sylvia. My wife is a pioneer in Indian education, and today she is school superintendent across the six Ache communities. The challenge that we have is to continue teaching Biblical values, strengthening the Ache church & develop partnerships, in vocational training, with management skills, financial accounting, and how to organize adequate strategies to provide the technical skills to sustain a Dairy and an pig raising operation, plus no-till soybean and corn, in order to find adequate ways to generate food, income and dignity, as following Christ and becoming strong in his Word, has been what has transformed this tribe from extreme vulnerability, to being a strong people and a clear example of success to the country of Paraguay.
